An unbelievable start to the first season of this exciting new series. Nicolas Prost sat on pole and led the whole race until the last turn of the last lap. Nick Heidfeld had been chasing Prost and closing the gap for several laps. Finally, on the straightaway before the last turn of the race Heidfeld was close enough to make an inside move which would set him up to win the race. Prost was noticeably looking for Heidfeld on the outside, and not looking inside. With Heidfeld already beside him, Prost blindly swerved to the inside causing an accident that wrecked both cars. Nick Heidfeld’s car hit the barrier, flew up in the air, spun a couple of times, and landed upside down. What a relieve it was to see Nick slide out of his still upside down car and run over to Prost to voice his dissatisfaction. While Prost’s car was not damaged nearly as much as Heidfeld’s, it was still unable to finish the race due to damage on the left front. Lucas di Grassi had been running a distant third and was able to steal the race win.
